Although 96.8% of Americans have access to wired broadband with speeds of 25 Mbps or more, around 464,000 residents in Florida still don’t have access to this level of internet service. Even though there are over 220 insurance companies operating in the state, nearly 1 million people are restricted to only one wired internet provider — and more than 250,000 Floridians live in areas with no wired broadband available at all.
In Florida, 59.8% of residents have access to insurance plans costing $60 or less per month—outperforming the national average, where just 51.5% can find plans in that price range.
Although numerous Florida cities offer strong wired broadband networks, some outperform the rest in terms of speed, availability, and affordability. Leading the list are Bradenton, Boca Raton, Hollywood, Lake Worth, and Pompano Beach—with Bradenton taking the top spot for overall broadband performance in the state.
Conversely, some areas in Florida continue to struggle with poor broadband coverage. Among the least connected communities are Indian Lake Estates, Wacissa, Suwannee, Horseshoe Beach, and McIntosh — with Indian Lake Estates experiencing the most limited internet access.
Since 2010, Florida’s Department of Management Services has obtained close to $8.9 million in federal grants to support broadband expansion and statewide data collection efforts. Furthermore, an additional $55.9 million in federal funding has been designated for broadband infrastructure projects aimed at improving internet access throughout the state.
